Clinical Trial Training Delivery for Remote Audiences

Unifying Technologies to Deliver Virtual Training Options

As trials evolve and continue to extend their reach to new patients and sites through decentralized and hybrid trial models, investment in technology is more important than ever. In addition to driving patient centricity, technology enables sponsors to optimize site performance and improve communication among sites.

Most notably, technology enables sponsors and CROs to provide site training in more flexible ways than ever before, including live streaming and on-demand access to remote audiences, while cutting training costs by up to 60% when compared to traditional delivery. Sponsors and sites can stay compliant with trial protocols using real-time and automated workflows to ultimately deliver better data quality and greater patient safety.

Virtual training options offer remarkable growth to accelerate trials forward and reduce protocol deviations but some sponsors are challenged with using multiple technologies to successfully manage the new decentralized/hybrid trial environment. These trials can benefit from a single platform that offers streamlined processes and agility while helping manage costs and accelerate study timelines.

WCG’s InvestigatorSpace® training and trial solution platform fills this need with seamless and integrated training and safety solutions backed by 20+ years of industry experience. InvestigatorSpace is a cloud-based platform, purpose-built for clinical research, that combines all training and training documentation.

InvestigatorSpace was used recently in a large respiratory decentralized trial to deliver unified, interactive, and engaging training for a remote audience.

InvestigatorSpace® LiveStream Optimizes Clinical Trial Training Delivery for Remote Audiences

A biopharmaceutical sponsor running a study on a new rescue treatment for asthma needed to implement a global training program that included live-streamed and on-demand training. The solution needed to deliver consistent training to live remote audiences and capture, archive, and document the content to deliver consistent and compliant on-demand training throughout the trial.

“We wanted people to understand what a DCT trial is. And everything we can get virtually through the entire study is our goal,” says Helen Andrews, Global Clinical Trial Manager at Avillion, the sponsor of the trial.

The Avillion-Batura study team needed a partner that understood the complexities of bringing together remote attendees for interactive study training, while supporting the study team and vendor presenters to deliver concise and engaging material.

A Robust, Engaging and User-Friendly Virtual Training Solution

WCG’s InvestigatorSpace LiveStream, a live video-based virtual meeting solution, brought all clinicians to the virtual table. It allowed key stakeholders to stream and broadcast training from the WCG studio, delivering a cohesive training curriculum with the ability to field real-time questions from sites in a panel setting.

The solution seamlessly synced presentation content, engagement tools, and annotation functionality, creating global efficiencies and standardization in the decentralized trial.

As maintaining compliance was also important, certificates of training were directly added to InvestigatorSpace. The ability to bring everything into a single platform, whether the training was completed virtually or on demand, accelerated the study and kept the Avillion study in a perpetual state of inspection readiness.

“We have been in a mock audit with the FDA. They were so impressed with us being able to show the certificates, the summaries, and all of that. And so, where we fell short is when we did not use InvestigatorSpace, and that is the take-home message,” explains Andrews.

Benefits of Adopting Virtual Clinical Trial Training Solutions

Using WCG InvestigatorSpace, the Batura study team delivered interactive training on telemedicine, electronic e-consent, reporting, patient engagement and recruitment. More than 300 users at 45 sites were certified through the virtual or on-demand training, and sites returned to InvestigatorSpace every 12 days to access training content.

Frank Albers, MD, PhD, Senior Global Medical Lead, Avillion, added, “We have stress levels in preparation, but you took everything else away and helped us to be successful together, which is a fantastic experience.”

“Whatever the design of your trial, WCG understands some goals are universal and that all studies need quality training that is well-documented and available at all times. WCG partners with sponsors and CROs to create and deliver innovative training in a variety of ways. And all of that is backed by industry-leading documentation services. We look forward to the opportunity to continue to partner with Avillion-Batura,” concludes Corey Christen, Vice President of Technology Delivery at WCG.
