MedTechVets Winter 2023 Networking Conference

Written by Korinne Osterhoudt

MARCH 31– On February 15th, MedTechVets held its Winter Networking Conference to mark the end of a successful Winter MTV Academy. This conference, we were honored to be joined by our two Keynote Speakers, Michael Minogue and Gregory Gadson. We also had 40 attendees from our Veteran Graduates, Mentors, Alumni, and representatives from18 different companies.

Each conference we all come together with the goal to build a bridge for military veterans to successfully transition to meaningful civilian careers.

The great thing about working in the MedTech/Healthcare industry is the mission-driven culture.”

Inside the Conference!

Our virtual Networking Conference is an opportunity for our graduating Veteran fellows and Academy Alumni to interact and network exclusively with our corporate sponsors, in addition to our community partners, and industry representatives from leading Med Tech, Bio Tech, Pharma, and Life Science companies.

Jamie Egan from Intuitive told everyone on the call that he looks for veteran candidates at MTV specifically for their talent and what their experience in the service brings.

“We have different roles, layers. When I worked for my prior organization, I got hired as a salesperson and did not have the development and mentorship to learn the role. The people I knew, knew I was hungry and wanted to be successful. I trusted my instincts and learned how to sell.

When I joined here I found a lot of development personally and professionally. We have entry-level roles – associates. As an associate, you benefit from your peers, and your team will be very invested in helping you grow. The sales training is phenomenal. It’s more important about what attributes you have, we care more about what you bring to the table as it relates to your attributes. Those are the things that make successful reps. Veterans traditionally have those attributes which is why we come here (the MTV Networking Conference) seeking the right folks, those attributes are present and if this is the right fit for you and we can bring you on our team, we will teach you to be successful.”

Jamie Egan, Intuitive

This conference, we had three veteran led breakout rooms. These smaller sessions give our fellows a great platform to utilize the skills and techniques they learned throughout our 7-Week Academy while marketing themselves effectively to find career success. We have seen quite a few job offers come from these sessions.

“The most critical thing you can do is network”

Mekela Porie, PPD

In these breakout rooms, one of the Teleflex recruiters offered to connect directly with our veteran graduates. Also, MTV Veteran Danielle Hilt set up follow-up calls with all representatives on the call.

Wrapping Up!

Thank you to everyone who attended our Winter 2023 Networking Conference. A special thank you to our Company Sponsors who made it possible and our Keynote Speakers. We’re excited to kick off another Spring Academy with a new cohort of Veteran fellows in a few weeks.

If we have the energy and enthusiasm, willing to learn, and get it done as a vet, we are capable of doing it. Thank you for the encouragement.”

Melissa Honey, MTV Veteran

With each new Academy and Conference we are able to make connections, open employment pathways, spread our mission, and support our veterans.

About MedTechVets

MedTechVets is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving Veterans during career transition and beyond.

Our Vision is to build a bridge to help Veterans find meaningful employment in the Medical Technology Industry.

We bridge the gap for Veterans by providing personalized career transition services, mentorship, and career development guidance. We serve Veterans who plan to enter the MedTech, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, or Medical Device industries.

MedTechVets is proud to be endorsed by Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed).

When a Veteran’s military skills and experiences are translated to civilian language, recruiting managers see the benefits of hiring a qualified Veteran. Veterans are able to see the roles within the MedTech, Medical Device, Life Sciences, and Pharmaceutical industries that would best suit their skill set and career aspirations.

MedTechVets Academy is a specialized program that provides more than generic advice about transitioning into medical-related career fields.
