Sparrow BioAcoustics recently unveiled its Stethophone^TM software, which transforms smartphones into medical-grade stethoscopes. This innovative tool enables users to capture, analyze, and share crucial heart health data with medical professionals from any location.

In June 2023, Sparrow received FDA clearance for the downloadable application, making it the first FDA-cleared smartphone stethoscope software-as-a-medical-device (SaMD). The company later obtained additional FDA clearance for consumer use, empowering individuals to actively monitor their heart health.

Stethophone^TM leverages a smartphone’s built-in microphone to capture the subtle sounds of the heart. These sounds are filtered through bioacoustics engineering to provide clear, medical-grade diagnostic signals. Sparrow believes that this technology could enhance the detection and diagnosis of both routine and complex cardiac conditions.

In addition to its diagnostic capabilities, Stethophone^TM offers advanced visualizations that help practitioners interpret the device’s diagnostics. Some of these patterns and anomalies may not be as easily discernible using conventional cardiac diagnostics.
