Honoring Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (Part 1 of 4)

In the US alone, 6.2 percent of the total population identify as AANHPI (Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander). May is dedicated to honoring people in the US with AANHPI heritage, so it’s a great time to celebrate their voices and experiences – and to reflect on how we can integrate their stories into our lives all year long, especially with our colleagues and teams.

Together, we seek to build engagement and rapport authentically by staying connected to the diverse cultural roots of our collective workforce and the rich histories they represent.  

No matter our industry or role, we can embrace how AA and NHPI peoples have shaped the fabric of our Nation and opened new possibilities for all of us – a core message in the White House Proclamation acknowledging this month. We can also recognize how AANHPI art and culture has instilled strength, resilience, and wholeness into our communities.  

As a firm grounded in behavioral science, we’re taking the opportunity to highlight AA and NHPI people whose work demonstrates a profound commitment to behaviors with lasting positive impact.  

While the individuals featured in our series may not have set out to be leaders in the traditional sense, their accomplishments are a rich resource of inspiration. Their stories ask us to consider what’s possible when we adopt three important leadership behaviors: 

  1. Maintain and pursue a clear vision
  2. Help people through coaching
  3. Stay humble and grounded

Ready to dive into our series? First up is the journey of someone who has literally “brightened” every workspace with a computer screen.
